Bare Necessities | Packaging Design

Photography by Mouli Paul
Bare Necessities is an Indian start-up which takes pride in providing zero-waste alternatives to Personal care and Lifestyle products. They sell via both E-commerce and Retail stores.
Design Brief
To design plastic-free, zero-waste primary packaging (for personal care and lifestyle products), and secondary packaging (shipping boxes). Design expandable packaging series for various kinds of product categories. The solution should be adaptable for all the products of one category.

Design Concept
Reusable and Compostable/Biodegradable packaging (materials). Pastel colors create a feeling of earthiness and purity. Colors that reflect the main ingredient/flavor of the product.
01 Spa Bar Packaging
Both the packaging paper types are FSC certified and 100% compostable.
02.1 Personal Care Products Packaging
02.2 Bath Salts Packaging
(Personal Care Product Packaging)
Personal Care products' packaging uses Glass Bottles, for glass has numerous advantages including it being transparent, easily available, recyclable, reusable, non-reactive, and cheap. Glass allows a good look at the product's splendid texture.
03 Lifestyle Products Packaging
(4cm X 27cm)
Reusable Packaging for reusable products
The Lifestyle Products Packaging is assembled using three units in total:

100% (unbleached) Kora Cotton pouch is a versatile packaging solution for the whole Bare Necessities (expandable) Lifestyle Products range, as the Kraft Paper tag, a variable unit, can be changed to correspond with the product inside the pouch.
The Kraft Paper tags are compostable and use eco-friendly soy-based ink for printing. The tags are tied to the pouch's drawstring.
The Fabric Label, stitched onto the pouch, has been screen-printed with black soy-based ink on hemp fabric.
04 Shipping Box Design (Secondary Packaging)
The Bare (shipping) box is made out of Recycled and compostable cardboard, with soy-based ink used for printing. Only black ink is used for printing, to avoid bleach-containing inks; reduced costs is an added advantage.
